Congratulations to our new PhDs: Allan Tobi and Valeria Sidorenko!

When it rains, it pours — and this December 2024 brought double celebrations for our lab. The thesis defenses of Allan (December 3, 2024) and Valeria (December 13, 2024) took place just 10 days apart.

Allan’s thesis, Development of Smart Nanoparticles for Experimental Treatment of Cancer,” opponent Dr. C.F.M. Sier (Leiden University, Netherlands), focused on creating silver nanoparticles as a versatile model platform for homing peptide applications. Valeria’s thesis, Novel Anthracycline-Loaded Nanoparticles for Precision Cancer Therapy,” opponent Dr. Ibane Abasolo (Research Scientist at Spanish National Research Council), centered on the development of a novel chemotherapeutic agent Utorubicin and peptide-guided polymeric nanoparticles for the precision treatment of solid tumors.

Throughout their studies, both mastered a broad range of techniques and grew significantly as researchers. They delivered excellent defenses. We are proud to have had them in our team and wish them every success in their future careers.
